Looks like someone is going to create a modern adaptation of Jose Rizal’s El Filibusterismo, and has posted a survey online:
http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/342936
Charlton Yldefonso is an aspiring journalist who does not want to be viewed as an average Filipino. He wants to be autonomous and in his own right lead his countrymen and contribute to the current society of Filipinos through his blogs.
How I wish the survey had referenced some blog entry that gave more details behind the project.
Anyway, the poll was created last June 9, 2008 and the creator seems to have stopped posting online.

If you are in need of an actor, i am available. (Not that I brag, I just want to be included in your project. It fascinates me).
However, it would be best if you would first watch the movies Noli Me Tangere (1960) and El Filibusterismo (1962) by Gerardo de Leon. I haven’t watched them yet (and still I am looking for any available copies), but I assume they are very good films.

i’m not really into the idea of modern adaptation. i still want the original setting of Noli and Fili ! – the 19th century, their dresses and everything!
But a Hollywood film based on this would be great! hee =D

I also have another survey which focuses more on the character suggestions for a film remake of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
The survey was originally called “El Filibusterismo characters and vehicles” and created on June 7, 2008. After finding out that everything didn’t work, on January 9, 2009, I revamped the questions.

Grammar error: the phrase “and finds out that our country is in a terriblr situation.” in the 1st comment, the word “terriblr” should be “terrible”.

On the above comment: My 3rd year in high school took place in the school year 2005-2006.

My name is Mark Kevin Limkinglam, a 16-year old college student and aspiring film producer. Yes, I am the creator of that “new El Filibusterismo” survey. My Mister Poll username is “kevzspeare”.
My idea for a modern adaptation of El Fili began in 3rd year high school (2006). We were having a play about Noli Me Tangere (per section), which was our project in Filipino for the fourth grading period. The play was a success, and I decided to make a modern film adaptation of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, which can either be animated or live-action.
The indie film’s working title is “Tatsulok: Pangako sa Inang Bayan”. Part of the title comes from the song “Tatsulok” by Buklod, and popularized by Bamboo. The film will contain several references to Filipino literature and cinema, from Jose Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere” to the 2008 film “Baler” (Best Picture, 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival). It will be also considered a tribute to the Filipino National Artists for Cinema.
The film is mostly centered on human rights and the environment, so please expect for references to climate change, arbitrary detention, and the Israel-Gaza conflict.
As for the characters, the Charlton Yldefonso mentioned above is the modern version of Basilio, and based on me (I’m turning 17 this March 12). There would also be modern variations of Juli, Kabesang Tales, and Isagani as well. But the main character is not Charlton, but instead a modern version of Crisostomo Ibarra (from Noli Me Tangere) called John Crisostomo Madiaga, a journalist who returned to the Philippines after 10 years in Los Angeles and finds out that our country is in a terriblr situation.
Now it’s time for the vehicles. Since Porsches were not common in the Philippines until about the late 1990s, Charlie would have to drive a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle 1302 (the Volkswagen Beetle in general is locally called the “kotseng kuba”). For Juanito Pelaez, I originally suggested a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, but because of its heavy price tag (300,000 British pounds sterling, or more than P20,000,000), I decided that the Juanito character will drive an SUV or passenger van.

By the way I’m still working on the project, so I’ll send you some updates on it sometime in the future.
